They immigrated and most of my family still live there, to South Dakota. My family and I have gone to Prague to meet a relative from the Hisek part of the family that didn’t immigrate in early 1900’s. He had done a family tree to track down the descendants that came here. They spell it Hysek there though. So you might want to start with that spelling. My surname, Haiker, remained remarkably stable through all the generations, with only a few phonetic spelling variations popping up as Heiker and Haicker. The family seems to be rooted in the village of Ohrnes/Javorí near Mohelnice in the Olomouc region. I’ve found businesses, streams, gasthauses, and other landmarks bearing my surname in mostly Czechia, but also southern Germany. None of them gave me clues as to meaning. Any input is greatly appreciated.
