I have noticed that some people are having problems accessing Pilsen archival records published on ActaPublica.eu website. The reason is simple - search is totally different from the other two archives on ActaPublica (Brno and Prague). Therefor I created this short guide to Pilsen archives.
Pilsen search is based on parish name, not village or part of village. When you choose Pilsen archives on ActaPublica.eu website, you get following screen:
You have to type in the name of the parish under which belonged the village your ancestors came from. Not the village name, but the parish. This is important to remember. How to find it?
You can use Pilsen archives list of registries - unfortunately there are not all of the villages listed, because if there was one parish book for whole parish, there will be only "farní obvod" (whole parish) mentioned instead of name of the village (see below). But if you are lucky, the village you are looking for will be there. See an example below.
If you are not able to find the village you can try GenTeam.at website. Registration is needed, but it covers whole area of the western part of ex-Hapsburg monarchy so it could be really useful. The website is available in English which is great. The most important part of all is Gazeteer where you can search for the village and find its parish.
When you click on Gazeteer you get a search field:
Fill in the village name (or its part) you are looking for and press Enter - I have taken Sklena Hut near Nýrsko as an example. You'll get results - information about parish is located in fifth column:
Then you have to type the parish name in the ActaPublica.eu website and press Enter. It's not needed to write the parish name with the diacritics, both Nyrsko and Nýrsko give the same result. This is what you get:
Then you just have to choose the parish book you need (based on information you already have).
Good luck! And if you have any questions, just ask in the comments!
