Immigrants from Žeraviny, Moravia

South-eastern Moravia was left by quite a large number of people heading to the U.S. They were looking for a better life, better living conditions as well as land to own. Some of them succeeded, some of them not that much. Anyway, some of these people were from Žeraviny, small town not far away from Hroznová Lhota or Kněždub (links go to the blog posts about immigration from these two towns).

I already published a post about people from Nový Hrozenkov born between 1875 and 1880 who have a note by their birth record about immigration to the U.S. As the Nový Hrozenkov birth book contains similar information for the following years, I have decided to publish another post. :)

Wilber, NE - the Czech Capital of the USA

Thanks to the fact I was in Lincoln, NE, I also had a chance to visit Wilber, NE, with my friends. Wilber is the official "Czech Capital of the USA" - place where up to 90 percent of all inhabitants have Czech roots. And they are very proud about these roots.

Immigrants from Červená parish, Písek district

When one lady asked me to translate few records from Červená parish in Písek district in Southern Bohemia, I haven't expected I'll find number of notes about people who left for the U.S. from this parish. Here is a list of these people - and it's quite a list!

Cheap tickets to America! Ads in old newspapers

It was one of the first times I read about emigration to U.S. and other countries in 19th century when I found out a mention about emigration advertisements which were published in Czech newspapers. These ads offered cheap tickets, full service connected to emigration and much more. I never paid to much attention to this until I bumped into one of such ads in old newspapers when looking for another article. 

Immigrants from Nedašov, Moravia

Nedašov is one of those villages which are mentioned in the Immigrants from various place blog post. I however found out there are few more notes in older records mentioning someone "in America", so I decided to write a blog post for Nedašov itself. I added few records extracted from Ellis Island database to have more data. If you are interested in Jakubík family from this village, this blog post is exactly for you. :)

Immigrants from Velký Ořechov parish, Moravia

As I sometimes publish information about immigrants from various villages, I also prepared this post - it's not focused on one village, but on whole parish as there were just few notes about immigrants in the birth registries of this parish. The parish is Velký Ořechov, which is located on border of Zlín and Uherské Hradiště districts in Moravia.

I run into evidence about immigration sometimes, often only one person from whole village. As I see it as nonsense to create a special post for such cases, I decided to create this post which I will update in cases I find some new record.

Immigrants from Tasov, Hodonín, Moravia

Tasov is another small village on Czech-Slovak borders. It's located near Strážnice, well known for its open-air museum and festival of folklore traditions. Tasov is one of those villages where it wasn't easy to live in - poor part of country on the slopes of White Carpathians where the most common way of living was agriculture. Most of the farmers here owned just a small piece of land, usually about 5 acres. Many people from here left to find their happiness across the ocean - here are those whose birth record contain a note about their emgration. The timespan covered is between 1885 and 1900.

Immigrants from Kuželov, Moravia

Kuželov is located in the area of Bílé Karpaty (White Carpathians) near borders between Moravia and Slovakia (formerly Upper Hungary). It always was poor region and many people left this area to search for better life across the sea. And sometimes, in some cases, there are notes about their new life in America in the registries. This blog post brings list of those who have such note and were born between 1880 and 1892.

Immigrants from Zděchov, Moravia

Small parish Zděchov (in fact covering just one village, Zděchov itself) is located on Czech-Slovak border in Vsetín district. It's located in the middle of Beskydy mountains, region which was left by many people because it was quite tough to live there. There are some notes about people who left to America in the registries - and here is the list.

Immigrants from Drahenice and Draheničky, Bohemia

It is not too common to find notes about emigration in registries from Central Bohemia. But I happened to run into several families from Drahenice, Příbram district, which have a small note written in the birth records of their children. And you can find a list of those children in this blog post.

Even the fact that Velká nad Veličkou is quite large, there are just few notes about immigrants in the registry from 1875 to 1885. But even these few notes can lead us to other families which were somehow connected to those mentioned below. There are, for example, many more Slováks in the Ellis Island database...

Immigrants from Hroznová Lhota, Moravia

Another village on Czech-Slovak borders, area, which was often left by young people looking for better future. There are just few notes in the registries between 1880 and 1900, but these notes will one day probably help someone in his search for ancestors...

Immigrants from Vlčnov, Moravia, 1890-1900

Vlčnov in Moravia - small town well know thanks to the local folklore traditions. Local "Ride of Kings" is great event visited by many people not only from Vlčnov surroundings, but from whole Czech Republic. But life here wasn't easy - and many young people emigrated. Here is another extract from parish books concerning notes about people who left Moravia and went overseas.

Immigrants from Kněždub

I was just browsing the Ellis Island records today, checking for people from Moravia who immigrated to the U.S. And I noticed four young gentlemen age 18 to 22 years immigrating from village Kněždub in Hodonín district, Moravia. I decided to check the birth parish book for further details on them (just for fun) - and I discovered people below also left Moravia.
