Looking for parish records translation?

I'll be happy to help you with that! 

I'm transcribing and translating parish records (and not only those, but also cadastral or estate records, chronicles, census records and much more) all languages that were used in Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia in the past - from Czech, German, Latin or Polish. You will receive not only a transcript and translation of the recording, but also explanations of unusual words and other explanations.

The flat rate is $8 per parish record. The rate for other resources depends on the resource - and I'll provide you an estimation before the translation is done.

German-speaking inhabitants of the Czech lands

I found an interesting map of the percentage of native German speaking inhabitants in the court districts of the Czech lands before the WWII. It shows the density of the German speaking population in the border area - Czechoslovakia was forced to give up these parts of the country to Germany in the Munich agreement of 1938.

Raschwitz or Rašovice? Municipality lexicon of Litoměřice archives

There are many useful tools available online, some created by the volunteers and genealogy fans, other created by the archives themselves. One of those which I see as extremely useful and were created by the archives, is the Municipality lexicon of Litoměřice archives which is available on website http://www.soalitomerice.cz/slovnik/slovnik.php?lang=en.

Aunt Kateřina's proverbs

Let's finish this year with something a bit more cheerful. Do you know Saturnin? No? It's a story from the writer Zdeněk Jirotka about one wonderful butler whose name is Saturnin. He is a butler of Jiří Oulický, young man with interesting relatives. One of those relatives is Aunt Kateřina who loves to use proverbs. And as Czech is very interesting language, I decided to write a blog post about these proverbs. I translated some of them literally, some of them have English parallels.

Death causes dictionary

As I was writing a blog post about epidemies, I was already thinking about creating basic dictionary of death causes - Czech-German-English dictionary, because many of parishes in Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia had parish books in German. And here it is. These are just those most common death causes as taken from parish books of Horní Záhoří (South Bohemia), Slabce (Central Bohemia), Nový Přerov (Moravia) and Kateřinky (Silesia).
